VIM Hilton Head Island thanks Avon Foundation for Women for grant

Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island is grateful to the Avon Foundation for Women, which awarded a generous one-year grant to support VIM's mammogram program.

It is the ninth year the clinic has received funding from Avon, with the goal of increasing awareness of the life-saving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. Since 2005, the mammogram program has reached more than 14,000 medically underserved women with information about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and provided more than 5,000 free mammograms. More than 45 percent of women in Beaufort and Jasper counties are not receiving screening mammograms due to lack of access, education and cost. With the continued support of Avon, Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island is actively working to change that statistic.
