Recreation Brief, June 8: Students from Beaufort's Club Karate earn black belts

Members of Beaufort's Club Karate traveled to Powder Springs, Ga., this spring to participate in Chun Kuk Do black belt testing and seminars.

David Spears earned his first degree black belt on April 19. The 45-year-old has been actively training for the past six years.

Mike Mobley, 55, earned his second degree black belt. He is a deputy sheriff, in his 19th year with the department.

Beaufort High School freshman Veronica McLeod, 14, also earned her second degree black belt.

Rome Wallace, 14, earned his second black. The Lady's Island Middle School eighth-grader has been taking karate for nine years.

The Club Karate students are instructed by Chuck Elias.
