EVENTS

  • Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority recently held its Customer Appreciation Event, in conjunction with the American Water Works Association's Drinking Water Week. Students from BJWSA's service area also participated in the authority's annual poster contes, with the theme "What do you know about H20?" The winning artist, a sixth-grader at Thomas Heyward Academy, and her entire class received gift certificates, compliments of BJWSA.

  • BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

    EVENTS

  • The school will host "Clash of the Classes VII" basketball competition pitting alumni against current players June 8. The girls game begins at 5 p.m. in the school gym, followed by a Lowcountry shootout, sharp-shooter three-point and slam dunk competitions. The boys game begins at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. The event is sponsored by the BC Class of 1996 Scholarship Fund Corp.

  • BEAUFORT ACADEMY

    ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The South Carolina Film Commission recently sponsored a statewide contest that encourages students to get outdoors. Students at Beaufort Academy placed third for their profile of "Hunting Island State Park: Second to None." The students won $200 for their film, which was screen at this year's Charleston International Film Festival.

  • BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL

    EVENTS

  • The public is invited to a celebration of its 2013 Senior Class at 7 p.m. June 4 in the gym. Seniors will receive honors, awards and special recognition. A brief reception will follow the awards ceremony.

  • E.C. MONTESSORI SCHOOL

    EVENTS

  • Summer camp for children age 3 to 6 will begin June 3. Each week of camp will follow a different theme. Details: 843-525 -1141 or come by the school at 15 Celadon Drive, Lady's Island.

  • The year-round toddler program of learning for children 18 months to 3 years old will continue throughout the summer on its regular schedule, including early- and late-care for working families.

  • JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

    EVENTS

    *Students donated their time May 22 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society. Students also celebrated the kick off of "Spirit Week," in which students at both campuses can "dress down" for day for a donation to the ACS. The homeroom raising the most donations will be given a pizza party.

    PORT ROYAL ELEMENTARY

    ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Fifth-grade gifted and talented students took top honors at the 2013 S.C. Economics Stock Market Game -- Elementary Division, sponsored by Moore Business College. Students played the stock market with virtual funds and ended with a net profit of $108,034. Students also wrote about their experiences for an essay contest. The team consisted of students Ashley Gavigan, Heather Butler, Samuel Horton, Jackson McCaskey and Remy Poulin -- state essay contest winner. They were supervised by teacher John O'Connell.

  • S.C. GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES

    ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Students from across the state graduated with the Class of 2013. Graduation events took place on the school campus, as well as the Peace Center in Greenville.

  • Those who graduated from Beaufort County are:

    -- Reece Graham of Bluffton, who studied drama. Graham plans to attend Southern Methodist University.

    -- Dana Leal of Hilton Head Island, who studied music and voice. Leal plans to attend Berklee College of Music.

    -- Keelin Sanz of Hilton Head Island, who studied drama. Sanz plans to attend Coastal Carolina University.
