American Legion Roundup, May 31: Lowcountry Heat move into first place with win

Heat 11, Goose Creek 3: The Lowcountry Heat moved into sole possession of first place in American Legion League 1, scoring eight runs in the fourth inning en route to an 11-3 win at Goose Creek on Thursday night.

A Goose Creek error in the fourth led to all eight Heat runs in the inning, breaking open a 3-3 game.

Storm Grisham and Logan Phillips each had two doubles, and Randy Young also had two hits for the Heat (4-1).

Mat Clark got the win, striking out nine in six innings. He gave up eight hits and three runs. Jake Martin pitched three scoreless innings for the Heat, who made no errors in the game.

The Heat host James Island on Tuesday.

Beaufort Ospreys 6, James Island 2: Four Beaufort pitchers combined on a three-hitter, and David Tilton went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs and RBIs in the win at West Ashley.

Austin Willis-Green got the victory, throwing five hitless innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Matt Thorpe, Mattison Pike and Shane Dixon pitched the final four innings.

Alex Silon went 1 for 3 with a run for the Ospreys (3-2), who play at 7 p.m. Monday at Goose Creek.
