The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded a one-year, $40,486 grant to Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island to increase awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

It's the ninth year that VIM's Mammogram Program has received funding from the Avon Foundation for Women, according to a news release.

The program educates local women about breast health and refers them to low-cost or free mammograms and clinical breast exams in their communities.
