CYCLING

MAYOR'S BIKE RIDE FOR A DIABETES CURE: When: June 1, 10 a.m. (ages 3-10) and 10:30 a.m. (ages 11 and up); Where: Hardeeville City Hall & Recreation Complex; Cost: $10 per adult, kids free; Notes: Proceeds from the event benefit the Southeast Georgia/Coastal South Carolina American Diabetes Association. HHIJGA REGISTRATION: What: Registration for the Hilton Head Island Junior Golf Association summer program; Who: Full-time summer residents of the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton area between ages 8-18 (as of June 1); Cost: $125 ($75 for additional children of same family); Registration deadline: June 5; Notes: Season begins June 10, and ends August 15. A mandatory meeting for all new parents of the program will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 4 at the Moss Creek Plantation clubhouse. Registrations will be accepted that evening. FIRECRACKER 5000: What: The 27th annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5000 Road Race and Family Fun Walk; When: 8 a.m., July 4; Where: Jarvis Creek Park, Hilton Head Island; Notes: Due to construction at Shelter Cove Park, this year's course will start behind Jarvis Creek Park on the Cross Island Parkway. The race will finish at the main entrance to Jarvis Creek Park. Post-race party will include a children's fun run, music from Chris Jones, fresh fruit, refreshments, exhibitors, door prizes, a craft beer garden, and more. A percentage of proceeds benefits several local charities including the Hilton Head Rotary Club, the Hilton Head High School cross country team and the Hilton Head Runners Club.
