info@islandpacket.comMay 24, 2013

The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue Division would like to thank residents for their participation in the 10th annual Household Hazardous Waste Round Up on April 27.

A little more than 1,400 cars came through the facility during the event, dropping off almost 82,000 pounds of materials. This is a 7 percent increase in traffic from the previous year. Almost 36,000 pounds of paints, pesticides, batteries and other hazardous materials were collected, as well as more than 45,000 pounds of electronic waste. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office collected over 85 pounds of prescription drugs.

Because of your participation, these items were disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.
