USC Beaufort women climb to 9th place at NAIA golf championship

The USC Beaufort women's golf continued its climb up the leaderboard Thursday at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in Lincoln, Neb., as the Sand Sharks carded their best score of the week with a 311 in the third round to pull into a tie for ninth heading into the final day.

USCB (328-314-311--953) has steadily improved over the first three rounds and tied for the fifth-best score of the day Thursday to crack the top 10. The Sand Sharks were 18th after the first round and tied for 14th at the halfway mark.

Sophomore Victoria DeGroodt (Walden, N.Y.) has led the way for USCB, following two rounds of 78 with a 4-over-par 76 on Thursday to move into a tie for 11th at 232. Senior Kelli Nakano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) shot 78 and is tied for 26th at 235.

Senior Katilin O'Sullivan (Hilton Head Island) posted her best round of the week with a 76 and is tied for 73rd at 247, along with sophomore Samantha O'Donnell (Hilton Head Island). Junior Kendra Collins (Bluffton) is tied for 87th.

Led by individual leader Jessica Schiele (75-68-74--217), Oklahoma City sits atop the leaderboard at 920, 10 shots clear of British Columbia and 11 in front of Lubbock Christian.

The Sand Sharks will be among the first groups off the first tee in Friday's final round. USCB is paired with Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and Northwood (Texas) with tee times ranging from 8:30 to 9:06 a.m. ET.
