The state champion Beaufort Academy girls soccer team will be honored by Rep. Shannon Erickson, R-Beaufort, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday on the floor of the S.C. House of Representatives in Columbia.

The Eagles finished the season with a 16-2 record and a 6-1 victory over Spartanburg's Oakbrook Prep in the SCISAA Class 1-A/2-A championship May 11 at the Patriots Point Athletic Complex in Mount Pleasant.

Freshman Mary Keane led the Eagles in the championship game with four goals, while Miranda Weslake and Mary Alice Strohmeyer added single goals. Charlotte Delfosse turned in a solid game in goal, as well.

The win avenged the Knights' 3-2 win in last season's state championship and gave head coach David Byrne his second state title in 10 trips to the finals, despite a starting lineup that featured four eighth-graders.
