Mitchelville Preservation Project to be recognized by National Park Service

The Mitchelville Preservation Project and Hilton Head Island Land Trust have been awarded for their contribution to the understanding of the Underground Railroad in American history. The Mitchelville site has met all of the requirements to be included in the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program.

The National Park Service implemented the national Underground Railroad program to support preservation and education efforts on a national level.

The National Park Service will recognize The Mitchelville Preservation Project at an upcoming conference in Little Rock, Ark.
