Police on Friday found a 27-year-old St. Helena Island man wanted in connection with a burglary earlier this week hiding in a closet at a friend's home, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

Christopher Lee Bowers was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary after police found him in a home on Emmons Street at about 12:20 p.m.

Authorities want to question Bowers about a May 12 burglary on Pigeon Point Road, where he allegedly broke into a home and stole jewelry that later was sold to a pawn shop in Charleston, according to Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy.

Bowers was out on bond from the Beaufort County Detention Center when he was arrested. In the earlier arrest, on April 24, he was charged with breaking and entering a pickup truck and stealing a backpack from the bed of the truck, according to Clancy. Bowers was released the next day after posting a $12,000 bond, according to the jail log.

In addition to that charge, Bowers was on parole in Richland County for a robbery he committed.
