Gun fundraiser raises larger societal question

info@islandpacket.comMay 15, 2013

The headline in the May 10 Island Packet "Republican Club to raffle AR-15 rifle" was scary.

It appears we are a society that is gradually drifting into two distinctly different units of people. One unit wants the freedom to arm themselves with whatever kind of weapon they choose and to walk our streets with an AR-15 slung over their shoulder presumably in search of something to shoot. The other unit wants the freedom to be able to walk our streets without having to be in fear of persons carrying AR-15 rifles who are looking for something to shoot.

My goodness, what kind of a society are we becoming?
