Hilton Head Island boys golf team leads 3-A championship

The Hilton Head Island Seahawks are 18 holes away from a state championship.

Hilton Head leads St. James and defending state champion A.C. Flora by two strokes after Monday’s first round of the Class 3-A boys golf championship at Coastal Carolina’s Hackler Course in Conway.

The Seahawks shot a first-round 313, led by Andrew Orischak’s 73, which has him two shots behind individual leader Keenan Huskey of Greenville, who shot 71.

Gavin Lindstrom’s 77 has him tied for eighth. Other Seahawks golfers include Chris O’Donnell (81), Brooks Moody (82) and Troy Hoisington (87).

The Seahawks finished fourth last season, 20 shots behind state champion A.C. Flora. Hilton Head High has eight golf titles. The last two title teams of 1996 and 1997 were led by current PGA Tour golfer D.J. Trahan, who won back-to-back Class 3-A Individual titles for the Seahawks.
