Angus, Newland and Oliver qualify for individual state high school tennis finals

Alex Angus is the first Beaufort High freshman to qualify for the Boys State Individual Tennis Finals.


Beaufort High School freshman Alex Angus will lead a contingent of three Beaufort County high school tennis players into the Boys State Individual Tennis Finals to be held May 17 to May 18 at the Lexington County Tennis Complex.

Joining Angus, the first Beaufort High freshman to qualify, will be Bluffton's No. 1 singles player Aaron Newland, who went 8-2 in Region 8-AAAA, and Hilton Head Island High's No. 1 Matt Oliver, who led the Seahawks to the Class 3-A Lower State championship.

Angus, who has an overall record of 54-18 and a region mark of 10-0, was the Region 8-AAAA individual champion and an automatic qualifier for the tournament that includes the top 32 players in the state at the Class 3-A and 4-A level.
