A man was robbed and assaulted by two acquaintances Wednesday in the Coligny Beach parking lot on S. Forest Beach Drive, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

A 21-year-old man told deputies he had been robbed at about 5:30 p.m. after spending time with friends at a nearby beach bar, according to a news release.

The man said he was at the bar with three friends. They were later joined by two acquaintances, a 21-year-old man and that man's 23-year-old brother.

When the group left, the victim, the man and his brother walked to the Coligny Beach parking lot. The brothers attacked the victim, punching him in the head simultaneously, according to the news release. They continued to assault him, then took his bag, which contained his wallet and cellphone.

After stealing his bag, the suspects left in their white Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his face, head and neck. He refused medical treatment.

The suspects have been tentaively identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
