Clemson racks up 26 runs in doubleheader sweep of Furman

GREENVILLE -- The No. 15 Clemson Tigers pummeled Furman in a doubleheader, scoring 26 runs in the two games, including a season-high 14 in the opener at Fluor Field.

Steve Wilkerson, Shane Kennedy and Thomas Brittle all had three hits apiece to lead Clemson's 14-hit attack in the 14-2 win in the opener. Wilkerson went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and two walks. Brittle went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, three runs and two steals.

Freshman Brody Koerner earned his first win by tossing six scoreless innings in the first game. He struck out a career-high seven and allowed just one hit.

Jon McGibbon went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs to lead Clemson to a 12-2 win in the second game.

Kyle Schnell (2-0) pitched 2 1-3 perfect innings in relief for the win in the nightcap.

The Tigers (34-15) have won nine straight over the Paladins (26-22).

The Clemson offense amassed 26 runs, 28 hits, 18 walks, three hit-by-pitches, and 12 steals in the doubleheader.

Clemson will host Georgia Southern in a three-game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium that starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
