Races aren't free when it costs $50 to get there

First, I was pleased to hear that the marsh tacky races on Daufuskie Island were a success.

But for those who could not possibly spend $50 to ride a ferry to a free event, it was definitely not a success. All of my friends and I were extremely disappointed that the races were moved to an island that has no public access other than a $50 ferry ride. We enjoyed the races for the last several years on Hilton Head Island's Coligny Beach. We would take our chairs and coolers and make a day out of it. Friends from out of town would join us because it was a great event that everyone could afford.

Jackie McFadden said, "I would love for it to be a race that everyone can attend, and it is expensive to get to (Daufuskie)." I certainly agree that it was very expensive.

How can anyone expect people to attend a free event and pay $50 to get there. That is so unbelievable. Only people who can afford the $50 or have a boat can attend. Come on, people. Not everyone has the money to pay $50 for a free event. That isn't free at all.
