Two men attempted to rob a woman outside a bingo hall in Burton late Tuesday night, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

A 70-year-old employee of the bingo hall on Laurel Bay Road told sheriff's deputies that two men attempted to take her purse at gunpoint while she walked to her car just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

The employee was able to hold onto her purse and run back into the bingo hall, which had just closed for the night.

The victim said the two men came from behind the building, and one of them was armed with a handgun. After their robbery was foiled, the suspects ran towards Capehart Lane.

The victim described the would-be robbers as black males about 5 feet tall and between 15 and 20 years old.
