Bluffton to unveil shrimp boat playground

Town of Bluffton officials and members of the 2013 Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class will debut the shrimp boat playground at DuBois Park at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The class and town officials ask residents, their children and their pets to join them for their first-ever Bluffton celebratory dance called "The Shrimp Boat Shake." The dance, modeled after the popular YouTube video, "The Harlem Shake," will be led by the Bluffton High School dance team, dressed as shrimp boat captains.

Face-painters and a balloon twister will be on hand at 9:30 a.m. for quick costuming, if needed. Homemade costume ideas are available at

The 2013 Leadership Class raised more than $21,000 to fund the playground. A $5,000 parks and recreation development grant from the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism funded the new swing set at DuBois Park, adjacent to the shrimp boat playground.

DuBois Park is at 48 Boundary St.
