USC Beaufort to start NAIA softball tournament vs. Cumberland

Sand Sharks host Opening Round in Hardeeville

The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team learned Tuesday which schools it will host for the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.

USCB will welcome Spring Hill (Ala.), Virginia Intermont and Cumberland (Tenn.) to the May 13-15 double-elimination tournament in Hardeeville, one of 10 Opening Round sites.

On May 13, the No. 1 seed faces the No. 4 seed at each site while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds battle it out. The second day sees three games, and the third and final day has the championship game and "if necessary" game.

The Sand Sharks (41-4) will open against Cumberland (36-20) in the second game on May 13, following the first game between Spring Hill (41-14) and Virginia Intermont (36-12).

The remaining Opening Round hosts are: Belhaven University (Miss.), Concordia University (Calif.), Concordia University (Ore.), Lee University (Tenn.), Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.), Lubbock Christian University (Texas), Oklahoma City University, Park University (Mo.) and Rogers State University (Okla.).

Each of the Opening Round winners will advance to the NAIA Softball National Championship in Columbus, Ga., May 24-30.
