Base workers plan rally Wednesday

info@islandpacket.comMay 7, 2013

Unionized civilian workers from Beaufort County's three military bases will rally against the sequestration budget cuts from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday outside Beaufort City Hall. Dozens of similar rallies will be held around the country.

Local union head Sue Partridge, who works at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, said her members want furloughs reduced or eliminated.

Civilian defense workers are slated for 14 unpaid days between this summer and Sept. 30. It's not clear when they will take effect, if at all.
