Thank you for 'Plaid About Reading Program'

letters@islandpacket.comMay 7, 2013

I would like to thank the Heritage Classic Foundation and Belk Department Stores for supporting literacy in our public schools with the "Plaid About Reading Program."

The program provided incentives for students, classes and schools to read the most books during a two-week period in February. Hilton Head Island Elementary School had 396 students participate, reading a total of 6,812 books. Our two winners, Brody Hoffman and Bobby Laskowitz, won prizes for reading the most books in second and fourth grades respectively. They were enthusiastic about their opportunity to attend the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing golf tournament with their parents.

This program is another fine example of the support the foundation gives to the youth in our community. I am grateful for this opportunity to instill a love of reading in our students and look forward to participating in this enriching program in the future.
