Reduced Medicaid step in wrong direction

Although I am writing as an individual, I feel sure that the other five physicians in the Good Neighbor Medical Clinic of Beaufort would endorse my comments.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital provides all of our laboratory and X-rays free of charge. We could not practice without this help. These services cost the hospital hundreds of thousands of dollars. We help the hospital by taking its unattached patients from the emergency department. Unfortunately, we can't meet the demand as we are limited by the number of practicing physicians.

With reduced funding for Medicaid patients, even more people will seek medical care, adding to the tremendous unmet need. Putting additional financial pressure on the hospital, their only source for care, defies logic.
