Haley should listen to state's hospitals

Cheers for Rick Toomey, CEO of Beaufort Memorial Hospital, for hitting all the right notes about President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. From a human, medical and financial perspective, "Obamacare" is a win-win issue for all citizens.

Experience and study after study have shown that people with insurance are more likely to seek medical help for chronic conditions earlier and avoid costly trips to the emergency room, as well as delay or actually eliminate expensive medical procedures. How can this not be good for all taxpayers?

One would hope that our governor would listen to the medical community and embrace expanded Medicaid and the insurance exchanges proposed for 2014. Funds slated for South Carolina to implement the Affordable Care Act will surely go to other states. How can this be good for anyone in our state?

Ensuring that all South Carolinians have access to health care will help to move our state from the bottom of national rankings in category after category. We have a beautiful state full of generous people.

Let's let the other 49 states know that we deserve to be in the top tier when it comes to caring for our people. And let's let Gov. Nikki Haley and the legislature know that we want the Affordable Care Act implemented in South Carolina.
