A 22-year-old St. Helena Island man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a February stabbing that left a 47-year-old man seriously injured, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Antionne Franklin Williams was arrested Wednesday on outstanding warrants related to the February 20 stabbing, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh.

Williams was charged with attempted murder, possession of a knife during commission of a violent crime, and providing false information to authorities, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.

Police said Williams and second man attacked the victim as he walked home from a friend's house, punching him and stabbing him with a knife. The attack left the man with multiple stab wounds and lacerations to his upper body. The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina for further treatment.

According to the initial crime report, the victim identified one of his attackers as an acquaintance he'd previously had a dispute with. McIntosh did not return a phone message seeking further details.
