Gov. Haley declares Saturday Candice Glover Day, 'Idol' star gives radio interview

Saturday is officially Candice Glover Day -- not just in Beaufort, but across South Carolina.

Gov. Nikki Haley issued a statewide proclamation designating Saturday "Candice Glover Day" to recognize the St. Helena Island native's "great talent and continuing success" on "American Idol."

Haley will be a part of the 5 p.m. parade in Beaufort today, and will attend Glover's 7 p.m. concert.

Glover greeted about 50 fans in Habersham Saturday morning -- signing autographs and accepting gifts, including a pecan pie made by Peggy Wilson of Maggie's Pub and Eatery -- and did an interview with Joel Garrett of radio station 94.5 The Coast.

The crowd waited for almost an hour, waving their signs and eagerly shouting at every car that approached the marketplace. The interview was scheduled for 8 a.m. but Glover did not arrive until almost 9 a.m.

When she arrived, she spoke right from the heart.

"It makes me want to cry almost everytime when I see random signs on the streets," she said in the interview.

Glover was greeted by about 125 fans at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport when she arrived Friday night.

Her next public event will be the parade at 5 p.m.
