A man was stabbed in the eye after an argument with his roommate in the Brighton Bay Apartments on the south end of Hilton Head Island early this morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The two roommates, ages 30 and 32, were allegedly drinking in their apartment when they began to argue, according to a news release.

The fight turned physical but the pair separated and one went to bed. However, the two men continued to exchange heated words on Facebook, the release said. Eventually, the roommate who did not go to bed entered the other roommate's bedroom, and the two began to fight again.

As he was assaulted, the man in bed grabbed a pocket knife from his bedside and stabbed his roommate in the eye, the release said. The man then ran from his bedroom to a neighbor's apartment to call 911 while the victim was taken to the hospital by his girlfriend, the release said.

The victim was transferred from a Hilton Head hospital to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where he is treatment for the serious but not life-threatening injury, the release said.

No arrest has been made as the investigation remains active.
