A Beaufort man attacked the mother of his child with a stun gun and choked her, according to a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman.

Gerald Michael Hagood, 34, was charged Monday, the same day as the incident, with high and aggravated criminal domestic violence, Cpl. Hope Able said.

Hagood held the stun gun to the woman's chest, choked her and tried to smother her with his hands, Able said. The victim is the mother of his child, but the two are no longer in a relationship, according to Able.

Hagood is being held for prosecution in the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log.
