Sanford's record shows little to cheer

info@islandpacket.comMay 1, 2013

Mark Sanford was our governor from 2003-2011. It's amazing what he did not accomplish in his eight-year tenure.

His mantra was to cut everything from taxes, education, social services, to infrastructure. This certainly contributed to the many problems now facing South Carolina. The result of his dysfunctional administration is illustrated by various categories of state rankings:

  • 46th in K-12 education.

  • 50th in high school graduation rates.

  • 46th in health care.

  • 40th in road conditions.

  • 5th highest in the rate of vehicle deaths.

  • The Sanford and Haley administrations have given subsidies estimated to exceed $1.5 billion to companies, such as Boeing and Amazon.com, and the Job Tax Credit Program. The jobs created by these subsidies have certainly not been offset by their excessive cost.

Why would any rational person want to vote for an individual who has demonstrated such incompetence in office?
