The inaugural half-marathon at Palmetto Bluff last month has resulted in a donation of $9,460 to Backpack Buddies of Bluffton, a volunteer organization that helps feed underprivileged children from local schools, according to a news release.

The event had more than 470 runners, and the donation came from the net proceeds, said Courtney Hampson, marketing manager for the community owned by Crescent Communities of Charlotte.

Sue Kroupa, who heads Backpack Buddies in Bluffton, said the money will be used to increase the number of children it serves.
