Final public workshop on Beaufort master plan is Wednesday

The final meeting in a series of public workshops to discuss the city of Beaufort proposed civic master plan will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Council Chambers, City Hall, 1911 Boundary St.

While previous meetings have addressed specific areas of the community, this meeting will encompass all of the city and the whole master plan.

Previous meetings, especially for Sectors 2 and 3, which make up the Ribaut Road corridor, have been heated as residents questioned plans and renderings showing possible development.

Concerns have run the gamut, including protecting the environment, filling empty lots and increasing population and tax base to establishing a vision that will help the city grow in a positive manner.

City officials said the meetings are designed to collect feedback from residents to be considered when working on a final draft of the plan. Comments, edits to the plan and suggestions are available for viewing on the city's website.

The civic master plan requires a vote of City Council before it could take effect.
