The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the Law Enforcement Explorers program.

The program offers hands-on training aimed at recruiting and preparing youths ages 14 to 20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. The class meets every other Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Applicants must be drug-free, have no criminal record, maintain good grades, have a clean driving record and be willing to participate in community functions.

Explorers also can participate in ride-alongs with deputies, during which they will be in uniform and assist in various capacities.
