Online dating, affairs service picks Sanford as poster boy

A website that connects its users for casual, even extramarital, affairs is using Mark Sanford as the face of its new marking campaign, according to Charleston TV station WCSC. unveiled a billboard in Columbia Tuesday along Interstate 26 in which a younger Mark Sanford is smiling with the words, "Next time to find your 'running mate,' " according to the TV station.

The sign refers to Sanford's admission to a 2009 extramarital affair with Maria Belen Chapur who is now his fiancee. Founder & CEO Noel Biderman, said "Mark Sanford's overcame a series of personal and professional hurdles to earn his place back in public service. While he recognizes the consequences of his actions, he maintains that his affair refined his life, but should not define it."

Biderman told the TV station that attitudes about such affairs are changing.

"More and more Americans are willing to forgive and forget. Millions of people have affairs and powerful politicians are no exception."

The dating site said they plan to add several more billboards in the weeks leading up to the big special election on May 7.
