County should keep nose out of personal business

info@islandpacket.comApril 29, 2013

Beaufort County is considering a smoking ban on all public property. County administrator Gary Kubic is leading that effort. Kubic states that he thinks he has an opportunity, through policy, to send a message to our community and to county employees. The message: We, the public, need to stop smoking to have a healthier lifestyle. I find his words insulting. We hired him to run county government. I don't want or need any personal life message from a county employee. Working for the government doesn't mean being a godmother or therapist. Kubic needs to cut the county budget and leave life mentoring to our individual families. I don't smoke and think it is a bad choice, but it is a personal choice. If there are practical reasons for a public property smoking ban, then so be it. Wes Breinich Hilton Head Island
