Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Beaufort, Jasper counties

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Beaufort and Jasper counties and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued the warning for portions of Effingham, Jasper, Chatham and Beaufort counties. The warning is in effect until 5:15 p.m.

Forecasts call for a storm with winds in excess of 60 mph and up to quarter-sized hail.

Locations in the warning include: Bluffton, Burton, Hardeeville, Hilton Head Island, Laurel Bay, Parris Island, Port Royal, Pritchardville, Ridgeland, Savannah Hilton Head International Airport, Beaufort, Calawassie Island, Hilton Head airport, Lady's Island, Lemon Island, Rose Hill, Shell Point and Sun City.

A preview severe thunderstorm warning for some portions of Beaufort and Jasper counties was lifted at 3:15 p.m.
