Lions like defensive end's reach

Former Beaufort High School standout and South Carolina defensive end Devin Taylor is headed to the Motor City.

The Detroit Lions selected the 23-year-old Taylor today in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, No. 132 overall.

Taylor interviewed with the Lions at the East-West Shrine game in January and again during February's NFL Combine but said he otherwise had no indication Detroit would select him. He said coaches liked his reach - he has 36-inch arms - for their 4-3 scheme.

The 6-foot-7, 266-pound Taylor, who grew up on Lady's Island, finished second in career tackles for loss at South Carolina, with 35.5. He finished sixth in school history in sacks, with 18.5.

Taylor was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2010, as a redshirt sophomore.
