sports@islandpacket.comApril 27, 2013

The Hilton Head Island Amateur Golf Association will host the first annual Hilton Head Island Spring Open and Senior Championship on Saturday and Sunday at Oldfield Golf Club.

The tournament is taking the place of the Match Play Championship and will determine the HHIAGA 2013 Senior Champion in both gross and net divisions, as well as the Open field champions.

"We have a very strong senior field," HHIAGA director Bob Collar said. "There's some good sticks out there."

Honors Cup points will be awarded to all players in the Open division. Trophies and gift certificates will be awarded to winners in all divisions, while the Senior Champion will have his name engraved on a perennial trophy.

The tournament is open and free to the public.
