For the first time this season, "American Idol" judges didn't shower Candice Glover with praise.
On Wednesday night's show, they were critical of part of the St. Helena Island native's performance.
After Glover sang Drake's "Find Your Love" in the show's Top 4, judge Nicki Minaj said she wished the contestant had stuck with the melody more and stayed more current.
Judge Randy Jackson agreed.
"Every phrase doesn't need a 'run always,'" Jackson said. "You can't always sound like you're in church."
He tempered that criticism a bit, though.
"But love you, love you, love you," he said.
Her next performance of the night was a duet with contestant Angie Miller. The pair sang Rihanna's "Stay," a performance Jackson said redeemed Glover.
For her final performance of the night, Glover sang Samantha Sang's "Emotion," part of the "one hit wonders" theme.
While the judges continued to call her vocals "out of this world," they felt something was off Wednesday night.
Judge Mariah Carey knew what that "something" was.
She said Glover has a cold.
"It's a really bad cold, actually," Glover said. "I didn't want to make any excuses."
"You don't need to because you did a stellar performance with a cold," Carey said. "People have to understand how difficult it is to maintain your voice throughout a contest ... . The way you have been singing from day one is just beyond comprehension for most people.
"And by the way, we know that next week you're going to kill us with every single song you do because you, my honey, are a super-duper star."
The "Idol" results show airs tonight from 8 to 9 p.m.
