Jellyfish demonstration set Thursday, Saturday in Port Royal

People curious about how cannonball jellyfish would be unloaded from boats and shipped out on trucks from the Port Royal Shrimp Dock can see a demonstration from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and Saturday..

Millenarian Trading Co. has proposed opening a jellyfish processing operation in Beaufort County, using the shrimp dock at the end of 11th Street as the intake point. A processing plant would be on St. Helena Island, as initial plans for a plant in Gardens Corner have been dropped, according to company spokesman Steven Giese.

The operation would bring up to 250 jobs within two years, Giese said.

Because of weather, this is expected to be the final opportunity for company officials to show the unloading process at the dock, Giese said.
