Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hilton Head Hospital thank volunteers

letters@islandpacket.comApril 24, 2013

As we celebrate the 240 volunteers who serve the patients and visitors at our Bluffton-Okatie Outpatient Center, Coastal Carolina Hospital and Hilton Head Hospital, a wonderful quote comes to mind: "A volunteer is one who believes people can make a difference and is willing to prove it."

National Volunteer Appreciation Week provides an opportunity to officially say "thank you" to our folks who make a positive difference each day. They come ready to serve, to care and to help. It might be a warm blanket, a kind word, the offer to show a visitor to her destination or a listening ear for an anxious family member. There is no limit to the tender loving care displayed by our dedicated volunteers.

We do live in a giving community, one in which volunteerism thrives. We see it all around us, and appreciate the quality of life resulting from so many volunteering individuals. Yet it takes special people to volunteer in a place where the "customer" is dealing with pain, medical tests, illness, surgery and the like.

On behalf of this health care family, I wish to sincerely thank our dedicated volunteers who make such a positive difference in the lives of our patients and visitors.
