Thank you to volunteers for picking up litter

info@islandpacket.comApril 24, 2013

April 13 was a beautiful day, with the sun shining, blue skies, light ocean breeze and 179-plus volunteers converging on Hunting Island State Park.

Thank you to each and everyone of you for your participation in the 2013 beach sweep. Our beautiful park is now relatively free of litter, a whole lot of palm fronds, and yes -- more litter. Once again volunteers came out in record numbers to help do a massive litter pick-up -- family and friends from Lands End Kayak Tours, Beaufort High School Interact Club, Dataw Island Garden Club, Marine Corps Band, JROTC from Wade Hampton High School, Friends of Hunting Island. Special thanks to the Rotary Club of the Low Country, which provided a delightful lunch for all of the volunteers, and to Jane Ann Lotton, Veronica Miller and Bobbi Weber for their assistance in making this sweep the best one ever.

Come out and enjoy one of the counties true natural treasures, and remember to leave only your footprints.

Vicki Ann Nestor, litter director
