A Lady's Island man said he was shot late Tuesday by an unknown person near Youmans Drive, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to Youmans Drive to reports of shots fired at about 10 p.m., according to a news release. While they were investigating, deputies were told a gunshot victim had arrived at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, said he had been shot by an unknown person, then ran to a family member's home nearby. He was taken to the emergency room by "a private party," according to the release.

The victim was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina, where he remains in serious but stable condition, according to the release.

Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and seeing the victim running down the road as if being chased.

No motive or suspect has been identified, but investigators are following several leads, the release states.

The Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information to contact either Investigator Cpl. J. Malphrus at 843-255-3426 or Crimestoppers, 1-888-274-6372.
