Nearly three weeks after Darryl McArthur Greene was shot on the side of a road in Burton, few clues have emerged to explain the events leading to his death on Easter.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators say they have learned little beyond the details released soon after Greene died.

The 40-year-old resident of Stone Mountain, Ga., was found at about 5:30 p.m. next to a vehicle whose engine was running on the side of Staffwood Lane.

Greene had been with a group of people before being shot several times. Lying next to Greene was a Glock 22, later identified as a handgun stolen from a Fulton County Sheriff's Department employee and reported missing to the Clayton County Police Department two weeks before Greene's death.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has identified no suspects nor a motive, although less than a week after Greene's death, Natalie Michelle Garriett, 42, (also listed in jail log with last name Williams) of Burton was accused of purposely giving a false account of details about the case. She was charged with accessory to a felony after the fact and was released from the county jail on a $25,000 personal-recognizance bond.

Since then, authorities have been tightlipped. An April 5 news release by the Sheriff's Office said that investigators were following "promising leads" on the case, but to date none of those leads has been reported. Sgt. Robin McIntosh said Friday she had no new information to release.

Fulton County sheriff's spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said the department's investigation into how the officer's gun was stolen is still open. But she would not disclose any other information because the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.

Attempts to reach a spokesman for the Clayton County Police Department were unsuccessful.
