"Free drinks' offer mixes golf and politics at the Heritage

A small sign on a small table along the 15th fairway Saturday offered: "Free Drinks Here."

It was set up in a back yard, out of bounds and well off the cart path.

Still, a number of people came over to discover that the gift of soft drinks or water came from the Democratic Club South of the Broad. And with the drink, they could pick up a flyer for Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a 1st Congressional District candidate in the special election May 7.

A volunteer working at the stand said many people walked on by, and he often heard it muttered, "Nothing's free."
