A resident of an apartment complex in Burton was robbed at gunpoint this morning, with the robber escaping with the man's cellphone and wallet as sheriff's deputies reached the scene, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, told deputies he was approached by a man at 9 a.m. near his apartment in the Magnolia Park complex, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. The man ordered the victim to the ground at gunpoint, taking the victim's cellphone and wallet before striking the victim in the back of the head with his gun and fleeing the scene.

Sheriff's deputies, at the apartment complex responding to an anonymous noise complaint, apparently saw the man fleeing before the victim told them he had been robbed, according to the release. EMS treated the victim at the scene for a minor head injury.

The victim described the suspect as a black male in his 20s, about 5-foot-9, 230 pounds. He wore a long-sleeve green shirt and black pants, according to the release. Anyone with information can call the Sheriff's Office investigators at 843-255-3426.
