The 10th Annual Soft Shell Crab Festival will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in Port Royal.

It includes live music, a classic car show, local vendors, a craft fair, a flea market and a variety of food trucks selling soft shell crabs and other seafood.

It also features the Port Royal Crab Race. During the event, thousands of plastic crabs are dumped into Battery Creek for a race downstream.

The Lowcountry and Beaufort Rotary clubs sponsor the race. Ten winners receive prizes, ranging from $100 to $2,000, and a chance at $1 million.

Port Royal Elementary School will host a children's festival featuring rides, and the Lowcountry Estuarium will have exhibits and information about local ecology.

The event, presented by the Old Village Association and the town, draws thousands of residents and visitors annually, Mayor Sam Murray said.

Organizers will keep their eyes on the sky as rainy weather is predicted for Saturday, but the event is scheduled to continue rain or shine. Murray expects people to attend regardless.

"I'm sure it wouldn't stop them, but it might slow them down a bit," he said with a laugh.
