While following the trail of an assault rifle stolen in a recent burglary, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators also found drugs at a Bluffton home, leading to a man's arrest.

Investigators learned that 19-year-old William Treyshawn Brown had an AR-15 rifle that was stolen during an April 4 burglary at Old South Apartments, according to a news release. When they met with him Wednesday at his home, Brown admitted that the stolen weapon and marijuana were inside, the release said.

Investigators got a search warrant and recovered the stolen rifle, a handgun, ammunition, 937 grams of marijuana, 17 Xanax pills, a digital scale and about $2,500 in cash.

Brown faces two charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and receiving stolen goods. He is being held for prosecution; his bond is set at $20,620, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

According to the release, Brown bought the rifle from three people who have been charged in the Old South burglary. Sarah Elizabeth Pleites, 17; Anthony Eric McQuarters, 20; and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with first-degree burglary and grand larceny in that case.
