While following the trail of an assault rifle stolen in a recent burglary, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators also found drugs at a Bluffton home, leading to a man's arrest.
Investigators learned that 19-year-old William Treyshawn Brown allegedly had an AR-15 rifle that was stolen during an April 4 burglary at Old South Apartments, according to a news release. When they met with him at his home on Bufflehead Lane Wednesday, Brown admitted the stolen weapon and a large quantity of marijuana were inside, the release said.
Investigators got a search warrant and recovered the stolen rifle, a handgun, ammunition, about 937 grams of marijuana, 17 Xanax pills, a digital scale and nearly $2,500 in cash. Brown faces two charges of with possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and receiving stolen goods. He is being held for prosecution in lieu of $20,620 bond, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
According to the release, Brown bought the rifle from three people who have already been charged with the Old South burglary. Sarah Elizabeth Pleites, 17, Anthony Eric McQuarters, 20, and a 14-year-old male have been charged with first degree burglary and grand larceny in that case, the Sheriff's Office said.
