Prep Roundup, April 18: Kizer throws no-hitter for Hilton Head High

Hilton Head Island High 10, Hanahan 0 (5 innings): Jake Kizer threw a no-hitter, only allowing a walk in the fourth inning, and Storm Grisham and Caleb Martin each went 3 for 3 with a double to help the Seahawks win.

Martin finished with four RBIs, Grisham had two RBIs and Dillon Heffner scored four runs for Hilton Head High (14-4 overall, 8-1 region), which will play for the Region 8-AAA title on Friday. The Seahawks host Berkeley, which is 9-0 in the region, at 7 p.m.

Beaufort High 10, Bluffton 2: Carson Gregory went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Mattison Pike was 1 for 3 with two RBIs as the Eagles knocked off the Bobcats.

Zach Brown and Matt Thorpe each went 1 for 1 with two runs scored for Beaufort (12-7 overall, 7-3 Region 8-AAAA).

Brady Cormier got the win, striking out five in a three-hit complete game.

Beaufort High plays at Bishop England on Friday.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 7, A.E Beach 2: Daquan Mitchell pitched his second straight one-hitter, striking out 11 for the Jaguars (9-6).

Shawn Wilson went 3 for 5 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases. Tyler Jones went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI amd a run scored and Ashawn Kemp was 1 for 2 with a run, a stolen base.

The Jaguars host Step of Faith Thursday to close the season.

Middle school (county championship): Hilton Head Island 3, Beaufort 0


Beaufort High 4, Bluffton 1: Jenny Mullins got the win, holding Bluffton to four hits. She struck out four and walked three, and her defense committed no errors.

Chelsea Welty led the Eagles at the plate, hitting a two-run home run and finishing with three RBIs.

Beaufort High (20-9 overall, 5-4 Region 8-AAAA) hosts Ashley Ridge at 7 p.m. tonight.

Courtney Smith got the loss for Bluffton. She gave up five hits and walked one while striking out five.

The Bobcats remain No. 8 in this week's S.C. Coaches High School Poll.

JV: Beaufort High 13, Bluffton 4

Hanahan 6, Hilton Head Island High 2: Whitney Halley went 2 for 4 with a run scored, but took the loss as the Seahawks dropped to .500 in Region 8-AAA.

Hilton Head High (4-11 overall, 4-4 region) hosts Berkeley on Friday.

Middle school (county championship): Beaufort 9, McCracken 0


Beaufort County track meet: Beaufort High Schools girls won the county meet at Bluffton High School, led by Kaila Smith and Ziara Crosby. Smith won three events and was named the girls track MVP, and Crosby was named the girls field MVP.

Shakil Gause of Battery Creek was named the boys field MVP after winning the shot put and discus.

SCISAA Open Tennis Tournament: Hilton Head Christian's Charlie Drake was the boys singles runner-up earlier this month at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter.


Beaufort High: The Eagles won a five-team match at Colleton County's Dogwood Hills course, edging Summerville by three shots. Beaufort High finished with a 159, Summerville 162, Ashley Ridge 164, Fort Dorchester 183 and Colleton County 217.

Beaufort's Josh Fickes was the medalist, firing a 36. Other scores for the Eagles were Matthew Campbell 39, Alex Porter 41, Keaton Butler 43 and Tommy Earl 44.
