Prep Roundup, April 17: Bluffton soccer team wins in OT

Bluffton 4, Summerville 2 (OT): Fabrizio Camera scored all four goals -- including two in overtime -- to lead the Bluffton High School boys soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Summerville on Tuesday night.

"I could not be more proud of these guys right now," Bluffton coach Josh Fox said.

Goalkeeper Kevin Millan had an outstanding game for the Bobcats, making a career-best 13 saves, including a save on a penalty kick in overtime.

Akeel Crooks had two assists for Bluffton (8-7 overall, 4-3 Region 8-AAAA), which hosts Fort Dorchester on Friday.

Beaufort High 4, Ashley Ridge 3 (PK): The Eagles came up with another heart-stopping win, rallying from a 3-1 deficit to tie the score, and eventually winning a penalty-kick shootout, 5-4.

Josh Vellucci scored two goals, including the equalizer, his 23rd of the season. Santee Rabon scored the Eagles' other goal in regulation.

Mack Stansell made four saves in goal, and stopped one in the shootout for Beaufort High (9-6 overall, 5-3 Region 8-AAAA).

The Eagles host Hilton Head Island High School at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Hilton Head Island High 3, James Island 0: Chris MacMurray, Noa Pagatpatan and Chip Tremarelli scored goals to help the Seahawks take sole possession of first place in Region 8-AAA.

Conner Goulet made five saves in goal for Hilton Head High (13-4 overall, 6-1 region), which plays at Beaufort High on Thursday.

Battery Creek 17, Whale Branch 0: Oscar Tierrablanca scored five goals, and Manny Gonzalez and William Lopez had three each as the Dolphins won in a rout.

Miguel Mejia, who also made one save in goal, scored two goals. John Saullo added two goals, and Luis Castillo and Kevin Diaz scored one apiece.

Christian Saunders also spent some time in goal for the Dolphins (8-8), but didn't need to make any saves.

Battery Creek plays Thursday at Calvary Day.

Porter-Gaud 6, Hilton Head Prep 2: Teron Daley and Logan Clark scored the goals for Prep, while Clark and Amit Kohli had assists in the loss.

Zenon Parker made 11 saves for the Dolphins (7-8 overall, 2-3 region), who play at Bluffton at 6 p.m. Monday.


Ashley Ridge 3, Beaufort High 2 (PK): Ashley Ridge won a penalty-kick shootout, 4-3, to earn the victory.

Carmen Alvarez and Molly Murphy scored goals for Beaufort High (5-7-2 overall, 4-3 Region 8-AAAA), which hosts Colleton County on Friday.

Porter Gaud 3, Hilton Head Prep 1: Megan Frederick had the lone goal for Prep, on assist from Cori Leonard.

Goalkeeper Emily Lacombe made 12 saves for the Dolphins (7-8 overall, 3-6 region), who host Northwood Academy at 5 p.m. Monday.

JV: Beaufort Academy 6, Ashley Hall 2


Ashley Ridge 3, Beaufort High 2: David Tilton went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles in the loss.

Bradley Brown pitched the complete game for the Eagles, taking the loss.

Beaufort High (11-7 overall, 6-3 Region 8-AAAA) hosts Bluffton at 7 p.m. today.

Battery Creek 4, Academic Magnet 3: Zach Mahan's pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh game the Dolphins the victory.

Thomas Smith pitched a complete game, striking out eight in the win.

Aaron Brantley went 3 for 4 for the Dolphins (11-8 overall, 5-2 Region 6-AA), who play a doubleheader at home Friday against St. John's.

Hilton Head Prep 13, Hilton Head Christian 0 (5 innings): Tyler Fox got the win for Prep, giving up two hits and striking out three in five innings.

Greg Warren led the Dolphins at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs. Kevin Campbell went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Fox was 1 for 4 with two RBIs.

Hilton Head Prep (12-3 overall, 5-1 region) plays at Porter-Gaud at 4 p.m. Thursday. They will finish up a suspended game and then play another.

Middle school (playoffs): Hilton Head Island 7, Lady's Island 3


Bluffton 2, Fort Dorchester 0: Courtney Smith had 11 strikeouts in a three-hit shutout, and the Bobcats played errorless defense behind her.

Bluffton (15-1 overall, 7-1 Region 8-AAAA) won despite only having two hits in the game.

The Bobcats scored their first run on two throwing errors in the first inning. Whitney Morrell singled and scored on Carly Thomas' sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Bluffton hosts Beaufort High at 7 p.m. today.

Beaufort High 15, Colleton County 4: Michelle Brown went 5 for 5 to lead the Eagles to victory.

Natalie Moore and Mari Cook had three hits apiece, and Maddy Berry and Jessica Bennett each had two hits for Beaufort (19-8 overall, 4-4 Region 8-AAAA).

Jenny Mullins got the win, giving up five hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

The Eagles play at Bluffton today.

JV: Colleton County 8, Beaufort High 2

James Island 5, Hilton Head Island High 4 (10 innings): Whitney Halley took the hard-luck loss, giving up no earned runs and striking out eight in a complete game.

Ariana Tolerton went 2 for 4 with a double, Caylee Osborne was 2 for 4 and Dorian Fitzhugh had a double and an RBI for the Seahawks (4-10 overall, 4-3 Region 8-AAA), who play at Hanahan tonight.


Bluffton 6, Colleton County 0: The Bobcats remained undefeated in Region 8-AAAA with the victory.

Bluffton (10-2 overall, 7-0 region) plays Hilton Head Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis.
